The tool is a simple but sophisticated variant of a screenshot software. Think of it as an automated "Print Screen" plus a little monkey in the background to show any mouse clicks, key strokes which adds some technical reading material, which then combines it all into a smart box and save the results. The pretty little box, you get in the end is a packed MHTML report, which can be sent directly to another user. It is in this report this little tool really shines through. Since it is actually an XML page that shows each step of the user's actions, complete with highlighted screen. You can view the report as it is, or as a slideshow, or even digging in the raw XML to find details like, X & Y coordinates of the mouse. Here you can see a draft of a report which I have prepared. You must use Internet Explorer to see MHTMLs. In order to test the tool "Problem Steps Recorder", type "psr.exe" in the Windows Start menu. Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows related errors.

If you have ever offered technical support to other computer users, you have probably tried losing your temper over their inability to describe their problem clearly enough. And most times it is not the fault of the user, but simply the difficulty level of describing what you see with words.
