Right click on the folder you want to open, while holding down the shift button on your keyboard. Now pick “Open in New Process” Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows related errors.

Windows Explorer opens all folders in one process (in the same window). But this can be changed through the “folder options” dialogue, this however will make the system open all folders in new processes, but in Windows 7 you can pick specific folders and open them in a new process, by using the content menu.
