You might think that the sidebar has disappeared in Windows 7, because you don’t see it at first glance, but Gadgets are still hosted by the Sidebar.exe process which are automatically loaded when Windows 7 boots. If you don’t plan on using gadgets, then you might as well delete the Sidebar Registry entry and recover some memory.

• Hit Winbutton + R to load up the Run prompt.
• Type in Regedit and hit enter
• Find and locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key. 
• Delete the sidebar Registry entry and reboot.
